Let Love Grow: An Introduction

“Let Love Grow” is a Girl Scout Silver Award project that includes a kit to help educate the importance of indoor air quality.

Why? Americans spend 90% of their time indoors and believe the air they are breathing in their homes, schools, or workplaces are cleaner than the air outside. However, the air they breathe indoors tends to be more polluted. (https://www.epa.gov/indoor-air-quality-iaq)

The kit includes – a spider plant, a binder with instructions, survey, and an air quality monitor. We have asked family, friends, and community members to adopt our plant for a 7-day period and record the air quality statistics for 6 months. Our project will last from July 1 to December 31, 2023, and will continue with our community partner, Eco El Paso.

Our project was inspired after completing the ‘Cadette Girl Scout Breathe Journey’ in February of this year where we learned about the importance of outdoor air quality. For our take action project, we created and donated an air quality flag kit to SSG Manuel R. Puentes Middle School who continue to fly the appropriate color flag and share air quality information in their morning announcements from the airnow.gov website.
